So the stars must be aligned for the Mountain Park Environmental Center because there is yet another article in today’s paper by Peter Roper titled, A Gem with a Fresh Future. This article focuses on the history of the park and how the park came to it’s present day state. Can you believe the City of Pueblo thought about selling the 600+ acres park in the 1990s? Thank goodness they didn’t because this park is a an oasis here in hot, sunbaked Pueblo. Roper’s article is definitely worth a quick read.

One of our favorite places to go here in Pueblo is actually not in town, but located 24 miles west of the city, a little place called Beulah. We drove out there today for a toddler activity in the Pueblo Mountain Park and enjoyed the Fall air and the leaves changing colors. Sometimes I think how wonderful it would be to live out here, close to the mountains, under the spruce trees, but with two little ones, I prefer to live in town. My family usually makes one or two trips to Beulah a month, just for a change of pace and to get closer to the mountains. We’d like to come out more, or even spend a weekend, but right now we just make it a day trip.
However, the Pueblo Mountain Park may make coming and spending a night in the wilderness a reality. The director of the MPEC, Dave Van Manen is going full press with getting the old Horseshoe Lodge up and running, with rooms and more. I think it would be great if we could come up here with our two small children, spend a Saturday night, star gaze, wake up to the fresh mountain air and enjoy time with other outdoor minded folks.
Check out this article, Park Progress, in the Chieftain and learn about the Horseshoe Lodge.

I am starting up this blog, Eye On Pueblo, as an outlet for me to share my ideas about happenings around town and things I would like to see promoted in the city. As a mother of two little ones, a wife, photographer and teacher, my blog will be related to topics that concern myself, my family and the community we live in.
